The 2009 Nissan Sentra gets a minor revamp for this model year with standard power locks, an MP3 input jack, and two auxiliary power outlets. Also changed is the hood, and the Sentra's packaged add-ons have been altered. In general, the Nissan Sentra maintains the same dependability, affordability, and impressive fuel economy. The Sentra earned the highest in ratings for front impact crash testing as well. Three trim levels allow buyers to pick the one that fits their unique driving needs, and a wealth of accessories can be added to give the Sentra a personal touch.
Under the hood, this 2009 Nissan is fitted with a 140 horsepower 2.0L DOHC four-cylinder engine. While there are no other engine options, the four-cylinder can be paired with either a six-speed manual transmission or a Continuously Variable Transmission (Xtronic CVT). With 147-lbs per foot of torque, the Sentra has a bit of get up and go, but some of the competition simply outperforms this sedan. Four-wheel anti-lock brakes with Electronic Brake force Distribution is standard, and independent front suspension improves the overall handling of the model. Buyers can also upgrade from 15-inch steel wheels to 16-inch aluminum-alloy wheels too. The Sentra gets around 25 city MPG and 33 highway MPG, which surpasses Toyota Corolla and the majority of the non-hybrid competition.
Inside, the Nissan Sentra is pretty basic with just a few surprise additions. An in-cabin microfilter actually cleans the air inside the model which is a bonus for those with allergies, asthma, or other breathing conditions. Power windows are standard, and buyers can upgrade to remote keyless entry. An oversized glovebox provides extra storage, while consumers can also upgrade to Bluetooth connectivity. This feature allows drivers to take and make handsfree calls. Other upgrades include leather seating and shifter knob and the Intelligent Key that has a remote ignition feature.
Safety takes center stage for the 2009 Sentra like the Advanced Airbag System, three-point passenger seatbelts, an energy absorbing steering column, and a tire pressure monitoring system. The unique steering column will collapse into itself to avoid injuries in the event of a collision. All trims include a Vehicle Immobilizer System that will automatically disengage the engine if a break-in is detected.
In general, the 2009 Nissan Sentra is a solid sedan, but some of the comparables beat it in powertrain options and interior accessories. Priced around $16,730, the Sentra is one of the most affordable five-passenger models, but without a great number of technological features, Nissan will have a hard time convincing contemporary buyers that this sedan is better than the rest.
