2010 Nissan Xterra Review
The truck-style 2010 Nissan Xterra SUV is a continuation of the original formula of success that the Japanese automaker has gained such notoriety for. It features a 4.0L DOHC 24-valve 6-cylinder engine that produces 261hp at 5600 RPM and 281 lb-ft of torque at 4000. It utilizes a CVTCS system on its intake valves as well as the Nissan Direct Injection System. When equipped with an optional 5-speed automatic transmission, it will take you 15 /20 miles per gallon city/highway respective. It's called the "Original Rock Star" and it is capable of taking you just about anywhere.
The Xterra for 2010 carries over the changed-up front fascia and grille from last year and the newly designed central instrumentation panel. Side-impact and curtain airbags were also made standard in 2009. Frontal crash tests from the NHTSA earned 4 out of 5 stars, but only three stars for rollover tests.
The Nissan Xterra for 2010 is available in four separate trim levels: X, S, SE and OFF ROAD. X, S and SE models are available as either 4x2 or 4x4 and of course, the OFF ROAD trim is 4x4 only. The OFF ROAD Xterra is equipped with skid plates, trail tires, and electronic 4WD system that smoothly switches between 2WD, 4WD High and 4WD Low settings. And if you opt for the automatic transmission, it will also feature a Hill Descent and Hill Starting assistance system.
Pricing for the Nissan Xterra ranges from $24,450 up to $30,400. Competition comes from the Chevrolet Tahoe, Ford Explorer, Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and the Toyota FJ Cruiser. The Xterra is a sizable unit measuring 178.7 x 78.2 x 74.9 inches in length, width and height respectively. Its wheelbase measures 106.3 inches. And trim dependent, it clears the ground from between 8.3 and 9.1 inches. Curb weight also varies between 4136 pounds up to 4360 pounds.
Interior spaciousness is more than adequate in the Nissan Xterra for 2010. 40 inches of frontal headroom (39 and the rear), 58 inches of shoulder room in the front and the rear, 56 inches of frontal hip room (46 in the rear) and 42.4 inches of frontal legroom (34.4 in the rear) abound. Luggage capacity is measured at 35.2 cubic feet and with the seats folded flat, maximum cargo capacity increases to 65.7 cubic feet. Standard seating for five is included.
EPA estimations for fuel economy for the 2010 Nissan Xterra range between 15/21 MPG and 16/20 MPG, trim dependent. It's tough and rugged, capable and stylish. Definitely a short lister, especially for the avid outdoor enthusiast, the Xterra is here to stay.
