The 2008 Scion xB is back this year in its iconic position in the auto maker's line-up. The five-passenger xB carries a starting MSRP of $16,230 for the five-speed manual and $17,180 for the four-speed automatic.

Under the hood you'll find a 2.4-liter, four cylinder producing 158 horsepower (a boost of 55 hp over the previous generation.) Expect to get about 22 miles per gallon in town and 28 on the highway (on both transmissions.)

The xB is a "mono spec" vehicle, which means the only two choices buyers have to make are transmission type and exterior paint. This limitation doesn't mean the buyer is settling for less. Standard features included power windows, locks, mirrors, and steering. Braking systems include ABS, EBD, and brake assist.

Both the driver and front passenger are shielded by airbags that deploy in two stages and you'll also find side bags mounted in the front seats with curtain bags to the front and rear. Throw in systems for vehicle stability and traction control and you're looking at a ride that is both smooth, steady, and extremely safe.

The audio unit is a Pioneer system with an output of 160 watts, which includes the right jacks to get your iPod plugged in and playing with artist, track, and album information displayed on the dash unit. (The connection system also provides constant power to your iPod so you won't be draining your batteries.)

Color choices for the 2008 Scion xB include Classic Silver Metallic, Super White, Nautical Blue Metallic, Black Sand Pearl, Hypnotic Teal Mica and Blackberry Crush Metallic. All xBs are upholstered in dark charcoal fabric.
