2008 Subaru B9 Tribeca Review

The 2008 Subaru Tribeca loses two things for this model year: the much-criticized three-point grille has been replaced by a one-piece grille with three horizontal cross bars and a chrome upper lining, and the B9 designation has been dropped from its name. Other external changes for this year's Tribeca include narrow, compartmentalized head lights to replace the former multi-bezel style from previous years, and a redesigned back end with different tail lights. As well, there are larger quarter-windows in back, and larger mirrors on each side, both modifications intended to improve visibility.

The Subaru Tribeca comes with a 256 horsepower, 3.6 liter six-cylinder engine that provides 247 pounds/feet of torque (up 15% from last year's model), and a five-speed automatic transmission that comes with overdrive and an auto-manual setting. All Subarus are all-wheel drive, and traction control, anti-lock disc brakes, and a stability control system are standard as well.

Rounding out the 2008 Subaru Tribeca's safety features are six airbags, including side-impact bags for the driver and front passenger, and side-curtain bags for the first two rows of seats. The optional third row is protected only by thick side pillars.

Inside the Tribeca, there are few real changes: electro-luminescent gauges and metallic overlays are carried over from last year's model, as is the centrally-mounted information display. Optional upgrades include a camera to assist in backing up, leather seats with powered adjustability, and a DVD system for the back seats. Subaru also says the second-row seats slide forward more smoothly now, allowing easier access to the third row, in seven-passenger models.

The 2008 Subaru Tribeca has a starting MSRP of $29,995 for the five-passenger model, or $30,995 for the model with seating for seven.
