2008 Subaru Legacy Review
The new 2008 Subaru Legacy brings the addition of a new trim level and the termination of another; nevertheless, the latest 3.0 R Limited trim more than makes up for the missing wagon edition with a 6-cylinder Subaru boxer engine that generates around 245 horsepower and a 5-speed SPORTSHIFT automatic transmission. The 2008 Legacy's 2.5i base trim comes standard with symmetrical all-wheel drive for improved traction and a 2.5L Subaru boxer engine that gets up to 170 horsepower. This 2008 Subaru proves that just because it is a sedan that does not mean it has to lack power. Also, though 20 city MPG and 27 highway MPG certainly cannot compete with the hybrid models on the market, it is a satisfactory rating amongst most other 4-door sedans.
Volvo should watch out because the 2008 Legacy could be in the running to take the title of safest sedan on the road. With anti-lock brakes that feature electronic brake-force distribution, a tire pressure monitoring system and dual-stage front airbags standard in the intro Legacy trim, this sedan beats out most of the competition. However, without the option of stability control, that title could be taken by any number of sedans in sales lots. On the other hand, the advanced frontal airbag system is more sophisticated than most others with sensors that automatically detect a driver and passenger's mass, posture, and height to better gauge the proper force for airbag deployment. Also, if a collision occurs, the steering column will fold into itself like an accordion, thus, the prevention or lessening of injury to the driver. A ring-shaped high-strength steel frame gives the 2008 Legacy the durability of a tank and will take in the energy of a collision without easily crumpling. Child safety locks and lower tethers for a child's seatbelt protect the entire family in the Subaru Legacy as well.
While the 2008 Subaru Legacy's rear seat folds completely flat for adaptable cargo space, the backseat simply is not as large as most other sedans, and the trunk is a bit undersized too. Nonetheless, Subaru has somewhat recognized that issue and has given the Legacy extra space under the trunk in a cargo tray. Base priced at $20,795, the 2008 Legacy might not be affordable for all families or singles. But, those that are searching for a safe and stylish sedan will find what they desire in this model.
