2009 Subaru Forester Review

2009 Subaru Forester Review

The new 2009 Subaru Forester is unlike any other car on the road. It provides versatility along with ample space and the highest government crash test rating. Whether a buyer is looking for an off-road utility vehicle or family taxicab, the 2009 Forester has got him covered and, with five different trims to choose from, consumers can find the perfect Forester to suit their needs. All-wheel drive, a powerful boxer engine and a wealth of interior and exterior upgrades make the Forester the perfect vehicle for almost any driver. With the Forester starting at $19,995, buyers should be flocking to Subaru sales lots.

On the standard Forester 2.5X the Subaru boxer engine is mounted lengthwise and produces up to 170 horsepower. The symmetrical all-wheel drive gives the car superior traction on winding roads, off-roading and in inclement weather. When a driver over-brakes or begins to lose control, the brake assist takes over and corrects the problem. Also, the four-wheel independent suspension adds even more adaptability on the road, and the electronic stability control helps prevent rollovers. The Forester 2.5X Premium, which starts at around $22,495, gets 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels, a huge moonroof, and chrome accents. However, the engine stays the same.

The next trim level, the 2.5X L.L. Bean Edition, continues with the same boxer engine as well, but the transmission gets an upgrade. The standard automatic comes equipped with a SportShift feature that allows the driver to have the power of a manual but the ease of an automatic. Also, the L.L. Bean Edition offers leather accents, automatic climate control, and heating features to de-ice the windows and mirrors. An in-dash navigation system is available on this trim level as well.

The Forester 2.5XT is where the major changes start to occur. The standard boxer engine is turbocharged and produces up to 224 horsepower. That's quite a boost from the 2.5X trim. The XT also gets a telescoping steering wheel. This steering wheel can retract and extend to allow for a more comfortable driving experience. The pedals are covered in aluminum alloy as well. The XT has an audio upgrade, too, with a 6-disc in-dash CD changer. The highest trim, the 2.5XT Limited, gives buyers the turbocharged boxer engine and the vehicle dynamics control provides superior traction and brake control. Also, an upgrade to Bluetooth capability can be added to the XT Limited trim.

With so many options, buyers will be hard-pressed to just pick one 2009 Subaru Forester. And, since the Forester can reach up to 19 city MPG and 24 highway MPG, it's right in line with the competition. The stylish look alone is enough to make any buyer crave the Forester and, with all of its offerings, is a great buy for anyone who wants a bit of versatility in their transportation.
