Suzuki Grand Vitara

The Suzuki Grand Vitara was introduced as the compact SUV replacement for the Sidekick in 1999. This full featured and utility friendly vehicle was the first Suzuki sold in United States that was powered by a 6 cylinder engine, giving it a lot more punch than others on the market at the time. With ample seating for 5 adults, 4 wheel drive and relatively good gas mileage, this was one Suzuki offering that almost seamlessly combines powerful performance with a roomy, functional and flexibly designed interior.

The most significant changes to the Grand Vitara occurred just in time for the 2006 model year. The completely redesigned little SUV debuted with a more athletic looking exterior and the unibody car like chassis seems to be the perfect foundation for a more rigid ride and improves the overall safety and handling. This chassis is combined with a ladder frame design that works to make the most of off road driving and towing capabilities. The Grand Vitara is available in Base, Luxury, and Premium or XSport styles. A five-speed manual is standard on the base and Premium styles while the five-speed automatic transmission remains optional. Luxury and XSport versions come equipped with the 5 speed automatic as part of the standard equipment list. The base model is fairly well equipped with features that include automatic climate control, full power accessories and side-curtain airbags. The Premium and XSport have a few additional items, including keyless startup, while the top of the line Luxury has upgrades that include leather seating and a moon roof.

Under the hood is now a 2.7 liter V6 that delivers 185 horsepower that is mated to a 5 speed automatic transmission. A well designed 4 wheel drive system with low range gearing is available for each of the 4 styles. As of the 2007 model year, a tire pressure monitor and trip computer were added to the list of standard features, and with the sales success of the 2006 model, no other changes have been made. With its new more powerful engine, an extensive list of standard features, above average off road capabilities for its class and an attractive sticker price, the Suzuki Grand Vitara is one of the most likeable and exceptional small SUV's on the market today.
