2008 Toyota Land Cruiser Review

The 2008 Toyota Land Cruiser is the newly remodeled full-size sport utility with a strong and impressive emphasis on off road capabilities. Its mountain trail prowess is combined with a subtly authoritative exterior style featuring a protruding rear end with extended wheel wells and a snub nose aerodynamically designed front to make it an attractive SUV. Up to 8 passengers are accommodated in a very well appointed and welcoming cabin that features a simple yet highly functional design. The Land Cruiser has had a solid reputation for superior quality engineering and reliability throughout its lifespan and the 2008 model holds true to industry expectations. However, everything has its price and the 2008 Land Cruiser's is just over $60,000 -Toyota's highest priced vehicle.

The single trim Land Cruiser comes standard with 18 inch alloy wheels, a sunroof, auto dimming mirrors, keyless ignition, parking sensors, 4 zone automatic climate control, heated and power operated leather seats and a 14-speaker JBL audio system with a six-CD changer and auxiliary audio jack. The Upgrade Options Package bundles a back up camera, rear spoiler, 9" display rear seat entertainment system, steering wheel mounted audio system controls, interior wood trim, heated second row seats, a console cooler box and a Bluetooth enabled navigation system. The flexible interior design includes a 50/50 split rear seat that fold down as well as folds up towards the sides of the vehicle to accomdate various cargo and transportation needs.

The Land Cruiser is equipped with a 5.7 liter V8 engine that delivers a hefty 381 horsepower. Power is delivered to all four wheels equipped with high and low range gearing via a 6 speed automatic transmission. Towing abilities are more than impressive and maximum towing capacity is rated at 8500 pounds. It's off road capabilities are superior and outstanding in its category of vehicle. The true sport utility is nicely complimented by a surprising degree of on road comfort. To reduce the chance of body roll when hitting the corners hard and improve wheel motion to easily conquer rough terrain, the Land Cruiser is equipped with a new Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS). This system achieves the desired results by automatically loosening or tightening the front and rear roll bars to most appropriately accommodate the current driving conditions.

It's unjustifiably high price is one of the very few downsides to the 2008 Toyota Land Cruiser. Performance and handling are both excellent and overall the Land Cruiser achieves a nice balance between off road excursion excellence and a smooth, comfortable highway drive.
