2009 Toyota Avalon Review
The 2009 Toyota Avalon is a carryover from the prior model year. The Avalon's exterior is elegant and refined, while the interior is bursting with technological upgrades. While some buyers might like more options with the drive train, the 2009 Avalon is generously equipped and still gets impressive gas mileage. This four-door five-passenger model comes in a range of three trim levels: XL, XLS, or Limited. Differences are found in the accessories, rather than the operating system. While the Toyota Avalon is a solid vehicle for the price, it lacks that certain panache of the other models in the maker's lineup.
Under the hood, the 2009 Avalon is fitted with a generous 268 horsepower 3.5L V6. With 248-lbs per foot of torque, the Avalon has more than enough power for a family sedan. Also, Variable Valve Timing allows the Avalon to conserve its fuel, giving it an overall rating of 19 city MPG and 28 highway MPG - one of the best in its category. Not only that, strict guidelines have been met in order for the Avalon to be named one of the vehicles that is rated as having ultra-low emissions. A six-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission with overdrive is standard on all three trims too.
Inside, the 2009 Avalon is equipped with several features typically considered upgrades in a family sedan. Steering wheel-mounted audio and climate controls make it a cinch to change stations, adjust the volume, and determine the temperature in this model. A power driver's seat with lumbar support is standard on the XL trim, while the Limited trim receives leather-trimmed front seats. Remote keyless entry comes with the XL and XLS trims, and the Smart Key System with push-button start is supplied with the Limited trim. Buyers can upgrade to a voice-activated DVD-based in-dash navigation unit on the higher trims. Some potential buyers might be disappointed that the XL cannot be fitted with the navigation unit.
Safety features range from anti-lock disc brakes to Vehicle Stability Control. A tire pressure monitoring system is standard, which gives owners a digital readout of the pressure in each tire in the instrument cluster. It will also alert drivers if a tire has too much or too little pressure. For smaller passengers, the seatbelts can be adjusted at three different points, making it easy to accommodate adolescents and toddlers in car seats. One of the interesting safety additions is the driver's seat knee airbag. This airbag will help prevent injuries to the driver's knees in the event of a collision.
The 2009 Toyota Avalon is a great pick for families looking for top-of-the-line safety features. However, those that want all of the extras included will need to look at the Mercedes Benz C-Class or other luxury models. Nevertheless, with an intro price of $27,845, some consumers might expect more in the Avalon. However, it will be hard to beat the 2009 Avalon's fuel economy without going with a hybrid model.
