The 2009 Toyota Highlander Hybrid breaks all the rules when it comes to a full-size SUV. This seven-passenger model incorporates a highly effective hybrid engine that provides sufficient power and an enormous reduction in fuel consumption. Buyers can choose from the Hybrid base model or a Limited version that integrates a number of technological advancements and convenient amenities. With an affordable intro MSRP, the Highlander Hybrid is comparable with the Chevrolet Tahoe and other solely gas-powered SUVs. A rugged yet elegant exterior design is appealing, while the model is equipped with all of the latest in safety features.
Safety is a high priority for the 2009 Highlander Hybrid. With standard features like the Star Safety System with Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management, the Hybrid blows away the competition. Stability Control keeps the SUV on its intended course, while an anti-lock brake system with Brake Assist helps during emergency braking situations. Hill Start Assist will keep the Highlander from rolling while starting on an incline. Adjustable seatbelts make accommodating smaller passengers or children's car-seats a snap, and the rear doors are equipped with child-protector locks so the little ones cannot inadvertently unlock or open the doors.
Under the hood, the Highlander Hybrid and the Hybrid Limited are fitted with a 209 horsepower 3.3L DOHC hybrid V6 that produces 212-lbs per foot of torque. The hybrid engine can operate on electricity, gasoline, or a combination of the two. With Variable Valve Timing, the Highlander is further able to save on fuel consumption also. The Toyota Highlander has received the coveted Super Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle rating as well. Regenerative braking recharges the battery every time the brake pedal is pressed. The Hybrid does not lose any power either and can reach 0-60 mph in just over eight seconds. An electronically controlled continuously variable transmission is standard on both trims, and on-demand four-wheel drive is included as well. The Highlander gets a remarkable 27 city MPG and 25 highway MPG, surpassing all other full-size SUVs.
Inside, this model comes with a CFC-free air conditioner with an air filter, a CD player with MP3 capabilities, and a backup monitor. The backup monitor allows drivers to have an unobstructed view of behind the vehicle. Power windows, locks, and a remote keyless entry system are also featured. Push-button start is convenient, and the Smart Key System will automatically lock or unlock the vehicle's door when the fob is within a certain distance of the model. Rich wood-grain trim is located throughout the interior, and steering wheel-mounted audio controls are standard.
the whole, the 2009 Toyota Highlander Hybrid is an ultramodern vehicle that answers the problem of having less of an impact on the environment while not sacrificing power. Also, priced around $34,700, the Highlander Hybrid is one of the most affordable seven-passenger models on the market. Families with children will be pleased with Toyota's attention to safety, and the air filter system will make the ride more comfortable for those with allergies or breathing problems.
