The all wheel drive 2008 Volkswagen Passat Wagon has a stylish, highly versatile design and a very attractive list of standard features. With a cabin that is outfitted to luxury car proportions, an extremely practical and functional wagon body style and a dynamic all wheel drive powertrain, the Passat has all the components of an exemplary midsize wagon. Changes for 2008 model year include new trim level names, a few equipment configuration changes and an increased standard features list. The Passat Wagon has 4 trims - the Turbo, Komfort, Lux and VR6. New Passat has added a 12 way power driver's seat, leather steering wheel and gear shift knob and rear side sunshades to the standard features list for all models. The Passat VR6 Wagon's list of standard features also includes bi-xenon headlights and 4Motion all wheel drive.
The Passat Wagon has a fully independent suspension and reinforced structure that provides an unexpectedly sporty driving experience. Steering is responsive and your choice of 2 potent engines promotes a most entertaining ride-especially for a mid size wagon. The 3 lower end models, the Turbo, the Komfort and the Lux, all come standard with a 200 horsepower 2.0 liter turbocharged 4 cylinder engine. Only the Turbo comes with a choice of either a 6 speed manual transmission or a 6 speed automatic, while the automatic is the only transmission choice for the Komfort and Lux. The VR6 Wagon is equipped with a 3.6 liter V6 engine mated to a 6 speed automatic and delivers a highly regarded 280 horsepower. Both engines provide quick acceleration and fuel economy is very good for 4 cylinder models with EPA ratings of about 21 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. The VR6 Wagon and its bigger engine and V6 power have less respectable ratings of 16 in the city and 24 on the highway.
The Passat Wagon has a very comfortable and extremely elegant interior. Superior materials, fit and finish are enhanced by very user friendly, precision based controls. With the 2nd row seats folded up and away, cargo space is increased to a more than ample 35.8 cubic feet. The base model Turbo has a very long list of standard features that include air conditioning, simulated leather seats, power windows, mirrors, and door locks, a CD and MP3 capable stereo system, cruise control, a conveniently designed umbrella holder and cooled storage compartment, a trip computer, keyless entry, tire pressure monitor, 16 inch alloy wheels and an unique 'hill hold' function that works to prevent the car from rolling backwards during uphill starts. Next up is the Komfort which has 17 inch wheels and adds a sunroof, in dash CD changer and satellite radio, enhanced interior lighting and double blade front sun visors. The Lux also includes power operated heated leather seats, dual zone automatic climate control, automatic headlights and front and rear parking sensors. The top of the line VR6 Wagon comes with even more standard features that include a high quality Dynaudio sound system, bi-xenon headlights and sport performance inspired, heavily bolstered front seats. All models have a full array of safety and security features and the wagon can reflect the more daring side of your personality by adding one of the optional ground effects kits that are available for all models.
There are a few lower priced mid size family wagons on the market, however, the Passat Wagon deserves serious consideration as a safety rich and reliable vehicle that is expected to have an even better resale value than the its sedan style partner. It seems inevitable that many car buyers will be justly attracted to the long list of standard features, all wheel drive, intelligent design, distinctive style and sophisticated interior of the 2008 Volkswagen Passat Wagon.
