The latest offering of the Volvo flagship S80 arrives as a 4-door luxury sedan that seats 4 or 5 and comes in two flavors, the 3.2 and the AWD. The 2007 Volvo S80 comes with either a compact but powerful 3.2 liter inline 6-cylinder engine which produces 235 hp and 236 lb-ft torque with FWD, or a 4.4 liter V8 which produces 311 hp and 325 lb-ft torque with AWD. So much about the S80 is new and different that it captures the essence of what Volvo calls "Scandinavian luxury."
The interior of the new S80 speaks of quality throughout, with wood or metal accents, a quiet cabin, and ample amenities. Plenty of leg room is available in front and back, with supportive seats that are ensconced in supple fabric. Instruments are easy to read and intelligently placed. Cabin acoustics are good with low engine or road noise. Visibility is good with a few small blind spots. Standard on the new 2007 S80 is a powerful new audio system with 10 speaker concert hall sound.
Among the safety features Volvo is renowned for are adaptive cruise control which varies your speed depending on the proximity of traffic ahead, and a specially designed engine compartment in the 2007 S80 which prevents passenger injury due to its increased crumple space, even in the event of a high-velocity crash. The 2007 S80 introduces a feature that may give the driver advanced warning of a potential crash. Radar behind the grill of the S80 senses when it is advancing too rapidly upon a vehicle ahead and gives the driver a heads-up audible signal and a visual alert. In conjunction with this, the brake system automatically reacts to shorten your braking response time.
Optional on the new 2007 Volvo S80 is a powerful new system that alerts you when a vehicle has moved into an area beside you that cannot be seen in the side mirrors. Another impressive option on the S80 is the ability to enter and start your vehicle without taking the key out of your pocket. Along with the innovations that the 2007 Volvo S80 offers, its fuel economy is noteworthy. The 3.2 S80 gets 19 mpg city and 28 mpg highway while the AWD gets 17 mpg city and 25 mpg highway. Volvo offers some exciting changes to its S80 that should translate into renewed consumer interest.
